Why I Created Ready. Set. Hired! (And Why It Gets Results)

Tara Sinclair explaining the Ready. Set. Hired! career coaching program

When people first contact me, they almost always ask the same question.

“Can you help me with my resume?”

Sometimes, the answer is yes. A resume is exactly what they need.

But after spending the last 20+ years helping people navigate career changes, redundancy, promotions and everything in between, I’ve realised something. More often than not, the resume isn’t actually the problem. It’s just the part of the job search people can see, so that’s what they ask about.

Once we start talking, I usually discover there’s much more going on. They’ve lost confidence after months of applying without success. They’re not sure which direction to take next. They don’t know whether they’re aiming too high or selling themselves short.  They look blankly at SEEK or LinkedIn Jobs not even knowing what to look for.  They’ve often been applying for everything instead of focusing on the roles they’re genuinely suited to, or they’re making the same mistakes over and over again without realising it.

That’s the conversation that changed my business.  I realised that people didn’t need just a resume.

For years, I was writing resumes and genuinely loved seeing the difference a great resume could make. Clients were getting interviews, job offers and wonderful feedback, but something kept happening that I couldn’t ignore.

A few weeks after finishing their resume, many of them would get back in touch.  One person needed help updating LinkedIn because recruiters had started viewing their profile.  Someone else had secured an interview and wanted help preparing.  Another client had two job offers and wasn’t sure which one to accept.  Someone else had accepted a role, only to realise later they probably could have negotiated a much better salary.

Each conversation reminded me that finding a new job isn’t one decision or one document. It’s a series of decisions, and every stage affects the next.

That’s when I decided to put together a program that provided every client with exactly what they needed from start to finish.

A resume is only one part of getting hired

I believe that a great resume does a lot of the heavy lifting for you. It’s your marketing document. It gets you noticed, creates a strong first impression and helps employers quickly understand the value you bring (which makes the interview process easier on you).

But a resume has never secured anyone a job on its own.

You still need to know which opportunities are worth pursuing and which ones are simply wasting your time. Your LinkedIn profile and SEEK profile should support the same message as your resume, rather than telling a different story. You need an application strategy that focuses on quality instead of quantity, because sending the same resume to fifty employers rarely produces fifty opportunities.

Then come the interviews. Knowing how to answer questions confidently, communicate your value and build rapport with the panel is a completely different skill. Finally, if you’re fortunate enough to receive an offer, there’s often another important decision to make. Is this the right role? Is the salary fair? Should you negotiate? Is there a better opportunity just around the corner?

When you look at it that way, it’s easy to see why so many capable professionals feel overwhelmed. They’re trying to navigate every stage on their own.

That’s why I created Ready. Set. Hired!

Ready. Set. Hired! wasn’t created because I wanted another coaching program to sell. It was created because I wanted to solve the real problem my clients were facing.  Instead of helping someone with one piece of the puzzle and then wishing them luck, I wanted to guide them through the entire journey.

That means starting with career direction and making sure we’re aiming for the right roles. From there, we build a resume that genuinely positions you for those opportunities, optimise your LinkedIn and SEEK profiles, develop a job search strategy, prepare for interviews, work through any setbacks together and, when the time comes, help you evaluate and negotiate job offers.

Rather than trying to figure everything out on your own, you have someone in your corner from beginning to end.

Why I keep the program small

One of the questions I’m often asked is how many clients I work with at any one time. It’s a fair question, because the answer explains why this program works so well.  I deliberately limit Ready. Set. Hired! to no more than 10 clients at a time.

The reason is simple. I don’t want to build a business where clients feel like a number or where support is reduced to automated emails, online portals and pre-recorded videos.  You’ll find plenty of programs that give you a login, a library of videos, a workbook to complete and tell you to come back when you’ve finished. If that works for you, that’s great.

That’s just not how I work.  When we’re working together, you have me.

No workbooks to complete.  No online portal to work your way through.  No hours of videos to watch.  No trying to figure everything out on your own.  Instead, you have someone who knows your story, understands your goals and is available to guide you through each stage of your job search.

Some weeks we’ll be refining an application before you press Submit. Other weeks we might be preparing for a panel interview, talking through a difficult career decision or celebrating a job offer you’ve worked incredibly hard to achieve.  That’s not something you can provide when you’re juggling dozens of coaching clients.  I’d rather work closely with a smaller number of people and give them the support they need.

Keeping the program small means I have the time to genuinely support every client, respond when opportunities arise and adapt our sessions to what’s happening in your world right now, not what happens to be on page 37 of a workbook.

That’s the difference.  You’re not investing in a library of resources.  You’re investing in personalised guidance, honest advice and someone who’s genuinely in your corner until you achieve your goal.

Your return on investment

People want to know whether investing in career coaching is worth it, and I completely understand the question. It is a significant investment, and I never pretend otherwise.  What I encourage people to think about, though, is the cost of staying exactly where they are.

If this program helps someone secure a role paying $10,000 or $20,000 more each year, the financial return speaks for itself. If it helps someone find work three months sooner, that’s three months of income they may otherwise have missed. If it gives someone the confidence to negotiate a better salary or avoid accepting a role that isn’t the right fit, those decisions can have an impact for years to come.

But the biggest return isn’t always measured in dollars.

It’s the confidence that comes from knowing how to approach your job search with purpose instead of guessing your way through it. It’s having someone to challenge your thinking, celebrate your wins and help you keep on track and moving when things don’t go to plan.

The skills, strategies and confidence you develop throughout the program don’t disappear once you’ve landed your next job. You’ll use them throughout your career every time you apply for a promotion, change employers, negotiate a salary or prepare for an interview, and they’re skills you’ll be able to pass on to your children, friends and colleagues for years to come.

The success stories are inspring!

One of my favourite parts of this job is receiving those emails and phone calls from clients telling me they’ve been offered the position. I have a whole page dedicated to my client’s success stories.

Some have spent months applying without a single interview before we started working together. Others have successfully changed careers after believing they had no transferable skills. I’ve had clients negotiate significantly higher salaries than they expected, secure promotions they never thought they’d be considered for and, in some cases, receive multiple job offers at the same time.

Every person’s story is different, but what they all have in common is that they stopped trying to navigate one of the biggest decisions of their career on their own.

Is This You?

  • You’ve been applying for months without results.
  • You’re ready for a career change but don’t know where to start.
  • You’re tired of trying to figure everything out on your own.
  • You want to cut through the noise and understand exactly what works.
  • You’ve lost confidence after repeated rejections.
  • You’re happy to hand over parts of the process to a professional.
  • You know you’re capable of more but aren’t sure how to communicate your value.
  • You want someone in your corner to guide you from start to finish.

If you nodded along to even one or two of these, let’s have a conversation.

Is Ready. Set. Hired! the right fit?

Probably not for everyone, and I’m completely honest about that. If all you need is a resume update, I’ll tell you that. If I think another service would be a better fit, I’ll recommend it.

Ready. Set. Hired! is designed for people who want more than a document. It’s for people who want clarity, accountability, honest advice and someone who genuinely cares about helping them reach the finish line.

If that sounds like what you’ve been looking for, I’d love to have a chat.
